These whole Piquillo peppers are delicious! They are naturally sweet and bright red in colour. Because the skins are a bit bitter, they are first roasted over wood fires to help the skins peel off. This also enhances their naturally sweet flavour!
They are then packed in the jar in their own delicious juices, together with a roasted garlic clove to give depth of flavour. All the juices and the garlic can be added to any dish.
The classic Spanish dish using these types of peppers is to stuff them with a bechamel sauce. This can be flavoured with seafood, vegetables or meats. But they are also delicious sliced, in a salad with tuna and some finely sliced mild Spanish onions. Or try them in casseroles and rice dishes. One of our favourites is with onions, chicken pieces and rice!
