Wines from the Ribera del Duero region are less well-known than Rioja, but very highly regarded in Spain. They are similar to a Rioja, made mainly with Tempranillo grapes. However, they have a more subtle oakiness and greater depth of flavour. This is due to the climate they are grown in and the age of the vines. This Roble is made from 85% Tempranillo and 15% Merlot from vines more than 60 years old. The wine is aged in American oak barrels for 6 months and in the bottle for a minimum of another 6 months. It is a deep cherry-red colour with aromas of vanilla and coffee blending with figs and black fruits on the palate. Full-bodied but well-balanced; great with red meats and cheeses.
