This is a red wine from the Ribera del Duero region of Spain. This wine growing area, with its own Denomination of Origin, is situated right next to La Rioja. Its wines are very highly regarded in Spain, although less well-known in the UK than Rioja. Montevannos is one of the region's oldest wineries. This Crianza is made using 90% Tempranillo and 10% Merlot grapes, from vines over 80 years old. The wine is aged in French and American oak barrels for 12 months, with a further 12 months minimum in the bottle. It is cherry-red, with aromas of vanilla and coffee. On the palate are hints of figs and blackberries with well-balanced toasted notes from the oak. Overall, it is a full-bodied and well-rounded wine, perfect with red meats and cheeses.
Denomination of Origin Ribera del Duero. Gold medal winner Castilla y Leon Wine Awards.
