Bahia is one of the main types of paella rice from Valencia. It is short-grain and quick-cooking, similar to Calasparra rice from Murcia. Both the 1kg and 5kg come in attractive cotton sacks, which helps to keep the rice protected, dry and not humid.
Bahia rice is used widely throughout Spain for paellas. It is a good alternative to the gold-standard 'Bomba' rice and is especially well suited to making larger paellas. This is because it requires less tending when being cooked than Bomba rice and has a shorter cooking time. Bahia rice doubles in size when cooked, absorbing a lot of flavour.
It carries a Denomination of Origin from Valencia as a mark of its quality and provenance.
