Azada was born of a father and son’s dream to return to the basics of traditional country life in Spain. The co-founder, Kevin Forssmann Russell, tells us how his father had bought a plot of land in Tarragona in the 1970s, with the dream of restoring its fields of almond and hazelnut trees to their former bountiful glory. The hoe, Azada in Spanish, was the only tool used to harvest the nuts. Today, the name Azada is symbolic of the company ethos of simplicity and tradition.

Over the years, the farm grew to include olive groves as well as other nuts and fruit. Kevin returned to rural life after some time away: “I missed it so much that I needed to return to my roots. This was when I founded Azada, together with Josep Maria Mallafre.”  Azada’s cold-pressed nut and flavoured olive oils have won many Great Taste Awards. Fresh ingredients such as lemons, basil and chilli are cold-pressed with the olives, ensuring that their essential oils are bottled with all their goodness and flavour, differentiating them from flavour-infused oils.
